Since 1992, with the objective to assist the poor, hard working pupils and students to rise themselves up in their life, Thanh Nien Newspaper has established the Nguyen Thai Binh Scholarship Fund to sponsor annually 500 students with the amount of over 1,5 billion VND. The Music and Fashion Show Charming Vietnam Gala is aimed to raise money for this fund.

The first Charming Vietnam Gala has taken place in 1994 and up to date, after 14 years, Thanh Nien Newspaper has performed 19 subjected shows with 15 times (mainly at Hoa Binh Theater,HCMC) including:

  - 14 times in Ho Chi Minh City (1 time lived by HTV for the 8th Vietnam Charm).
  - 2 times in Hanoi. - 1 time in Nha Trang. - 1 time in Australia with the subject of “Far and Close” (2005).
  - 1 time in Singapore.(8.2007)

A number of Miss beauty, model, dancer in Vietnam have collaborated from the birth of Charming Vietnam Gala up to date. Many famous directors, singers, musiciens, fashion designers have been advanced in their careers from this program. In the other hands, the Charming Vietnam Gala is the best bridge for the Vietnamese Overseas Artists to return their homeland to serve the local audiences. The Vietnamese Overseas Artists have started to perform from the 6th Vietnam Charm in 1998 up to date including Huong Lan, Ngoc Bich, Hoai Linh, Jimmy Nguyen, Thanh Ha, Trizzie Phuong Trinh, Elvis Phuong, Trinh Nam Son, Duc Huy, Duy Quang, Linda Trang Dai, Tommy Ngo, Tuan Ngoc, Truc Linh, Truc Lam, Thai Chau. The other famous people have participated in this show such as the 2 Chinese Models Quach Hoa and Luc Loi Dat, Miss Japanese Student 2000 and Miss Yokohama 2001, Ota Yasuko, the choreographer Nguyen Thuy Ea Sola, the director Dinh Anh Dung.

The Charming Vietnam Gala shows have harvested nearly 15 billion VND (approximately USD 1 million) for the Nguyen Thai Binh Scholarship Fund.

The Vietnamese Overseas Community is very fond of the Charming Vietnam Gala products such as their CD, VCD, DVD. For more than last 10 years, the Charming Vietnam Gala has been rated as the unique and competitive program against the Thuy Nga Paris show (the leading, highly invested and modernly equipped program). But Charming Vietnam Gala has been highly appraised by the Vietnamese Overseas Communities comparing to the other overseas shows in term of the content quality and especially the warm cultural and national character.

In many recent years, the Charming Vietnam Gala has become the leading brand of music and fashion show nationwide. It is also the model which would be multiplied for the big music and fashion shows in Vietnam later. Many foreign news agencies have reminded Charming Vietnam Gala as the most favourite program for Vietnamese Overseas and many of them have collected all the DVDs of this program. In the end of Oct 2005, on the occasion of 15 years to resume the Vietnam – Australia air bridge and to promote the country, people and culture of Vietnam, concurrently to contribute to the solidarity with the Vietnamese youth who is residing in Australia. The Vietnamese Embassy in Australia, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Sydney, Thanh Nien Newspaper, Vietnam Airlines and Service of Culture and Information of HCMC have co-organized the activity of the Vietnamese Culture and Tourism Week and the music, fashion show named Charming Vietnam Gala of Thanh Nien Newspaper (free of charge) from 29/10/2005 to 04/11/2005 in the 2 cities of Canberra and Sydney (Australia).

This activity has been appraised by the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia as the Vietnamese largest scale cultural and tourist one to be held in Australia. This program has received the great assistance from a lot of local agencies as well as the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs of Australia,…If the imposing large scale of the show had been an attraction but the informations on the local websites and even the Australian newspapers have also created the enthousiastic and awaiting atmosphere. The Vietnamese language section of BBC, the Canberra Times, many Australian Televisions have registered to quote, broadcast and to introduce this program such as Channel 9 and ABC.

More than 4,000 Vietnamese and Australian audiences, many distinguished guests from the Australian Government have attended this show (most of high ranking officials of the New South Wales State, the biggest state of Australia, and Sydney City have been present). Among them are the Chairman of the Vietnam-Australia Friendship Artist Group, Mr.Peter Slitter, Mdm.Marie Bashir, Governor of New South Wales State, Mdm.Meredith Birmann, State Legislative Chairwoman, Sir.Jeff Hunter, Chairman of the Asia Pacific Senator Group of the State Parliament and especially the Former Deputy Prime Minister Tom Uren and many mayors of surrounding cities have also participated this program. To state about the Charming Vietnam Gala to be performed overseas, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, Mr.Le Van Bang has said: “This is a very meaningful development of the cultural exchanges. I thought that we need to develop stronger and further, not only to Australia, Europe but also to the US. The delegates must demonstrate that Vietnam is developing not only the politics, economics but also the culture”.

At the Canberra Theater, Sir.Peter Slipper, Chairman of Vietnam Australia Friendship Senator Group has stated that this was a special cultural and large scale from Vietnam to Australia not only to introduce the Vietnamese Culture and People but also to tighten more the close relationship between the 2 nations in the time ahead. For a long time after this trip, Thanh Nien Newspaper still received a hundred of emails to express the special emotions from many people overseas not only Australia to support this show.

Up to now, every Charming Vietnam Gala program is the gathering place of the leading singers, models, Miss Beauty and it has become a performing organisation technology with the latest and most modern equipments in Vietnam.

Above are the foundations for Thanh Nien Newspaper to make decision on organizing the Charming Vietnam Gala in the Singapore (August 2007 ) and in the UK (2008) in collaborating with many government authorities. Esspecially, the Charming Vietnam Gala in the UK (March 2008) are going to serve the official visiting of Vietnamese Prime Minister to the British Commonweath.
